Quilts on Plum Lane

Welcome to the Friendliest Quilt Store in Florida!

Dear Quilters,

Happy Holidays to you all!!  Where did another year go!!  When I retired, I thought I would have time to complete some of the more challenging projects I had collected!!  Apparently life doesn’t work that way.  I still have as much fabric (actually more) and I don’t seem to have more time to quilt than I had before!!

We have planned a lot for the New Year.  Marcus Brothers has come up with a new set of Judy Rothermal reproductions and an amazing Block of the Month quilt project called, “A Civil War Tribute.”  Sara Ross has been kind enough to sew the sample for the shop.  We already have the first two month’s sewn.  You make more than one block per month!

Carol and I are “still lovin’ the wool!”  Carol has finished the Folk Art Album quilt (don’t know why she insists n putting her initials on it?)  It is a beautiful thing to behold.  She will be teaching the class again after the first of the year.  She and I will also be teaching smaller wool projects - so check out the classes.

Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company will be with us again.  She is teaching a 2 - day retreat!  This time we are planning only one project which she has told us we should get mostly completed if we cut in advance.  I am looking forward to the process!  She also claims she can make 100 flying geese in an hour using her technique and the “Open Gate, Fit to be Geese” ruler.  We are holding you to it, Carrie.  The quilt will be in the shop in January.  We still have a few openings for the retreat.  I have cut kits, but you are welcome to bring your own fabrics. ( call for more information)

We look forward to having you drop by and show us what you have been doing!

Carol’s Corner

Hi All!

Every year at this time I try to find a new way to say “Welcome Back” to everyone and every year I fail.  I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it – so – “Welcome Back!”  I hope you all had a great summer.  A special thanks to all you locals for your continued loyalty and support.  We appreciate you!

Unfortunately my time the past several months has been tied up with things other than stitching.  I’m beginning to have major sewing machine withdrawals.  I’ll go in my sewing room in the mornings while I brush my teeth and look at my shelves of books and fabrics, stare at the empty design wall and feel a tug of longing.  I know one of these days life will settle down and I can get back to it.  The one saving grace—my room is neat!

My hands haven’t been totally idle – I’ve been working on my wool appliqué and savoring every stitch.  My Folk Art Album Quilt is officially done—quilted (by hand) and bound.  It really is pretty.  I’m quite happy with it.  I’ll be teaching it this winter so stop by and check it out.  Since I can’t decide which wool project to do next, I think I’ll pick up some regular appliqué for a bit.  Hope I haven’t lost my touch!

I’d like to mention the importance of safely disposing of needles, pins and rotary blades.  Please don’t throw them away unprotected.  Keep an empty plastic container or jar by your machine and put used items in it.  One of our husband’s had to have six stitches in his foot—he was stomping down the trash and found out a blade wrapped in paper and cardboard wasn’t enough.  Please be careful!

We’re looking forward to a fun filled winter, stop by to see what’s new, say hello and catch up.  Bring show and tell.  Look forward to seeing you!

         Still happily stitching someday ….

Carol
