Quilts on Plum Lane

Welcome to the Friendliest Quilt Store in Florida!

Dear Quilters,

Welcome back to all of you who have been away for the Summer!  We missed you!  For those of you that Hunker Down, enjoy the cool and remember what the Summer was like.

I have found that Giving Back, is a satisfying thing to do, especially when there seem to be more in need these days.  The joys of giving can go beyond the season of giving.

This Summer/Fall we spent a day making pillowcases for Conkerr Cancer.  22 individuals showed up and we made 454 pillowcases before the day was out.  We met at St Mary’s Episcopal Church for a covered dish and sew in!! Conkerr Cancer donates over 800 pillowcases a month to the Bay area Children’s hospitals and Boggy Creek (cancer camp)  It is a wonderful cause and I am able to log in the number of cases to the millions of pillowcases across America.  One, 10 year old young girl, sent 10 pillowcases to help with the cause.

We are meeting again,   Saturday, Feb. 26th 10 am  to 4 pm.  St Mary’s Episcopal Church.  Dade City.   Call the shop for more information.  If you have a group at your park or you are part of a guild, we challenge you to take the day as a group, to make some very appreciative children a pillowcase.  We will award prizes for the most pillowcases made by a group, etc.   Call the shop for particulars, 352-518-0003.  If you would like to join us or if your group would like to join the challenge, let us know!!!

Carol’s Corner

Hi All!

A few weeks ago I finally decided I’d had enough—changes had to be made. I’m a big girl—I can do this.  So—armed with dust rags & determination I marched down the hall to confront the clutter in my sewing room that had begun to meet me at the door.

The worst offender was all my yummy wool (are you surprised)?! Piles & bags everywhere and all those little pieces I can’t bear to part with!  After several hours of an even bigger mess it was all color coordinated on my shelves & those little guys were bagged  & put away.  A sight to behold!

My reorganizing unearthed several unfinished projects (again, anyone surprised?)  All neatly stashed in those wonderful zipper bags just waiting for attention.  Now they’re all lined up in a (rather large) basket.  Some I’m still passionate about, others not so much.  Should I finish them or pass them on?  Ah—a decision for another day.

Feeling quite proud of my accomplishments & seeing only a half dozen UFOs, I went to the closet in search of some blocks I’d promised a friend.  There, neatly stacked in containers half way to the top—more!  Lots more!

I handled it well—I found the blocks, put the lids back on the tubs & closed the closet door.

Life is good, order has been restored & I know I’ll never say to myself “I’m bored & have nothing to do.” Isn’t quilting wonderful?

  Still happily stitching ….

Carol
